Senna takes 5th at England Combined Events Champs

Senna Gorvett travelled to Sheffield for the national indoor combined events champs, as she looked to deliver across the 5 events that make up an indoor pentathlon. It wasnt the best start for Senna, as she was left in the blocks for the 60m hurdles, before recovering to run a solid 9.62s, although it was a couple of tenths down on expectations. High jump was next up - and this proved to be a real high point for Senna. She progressed cleanly through the heights, achieving a best of 1.59m which was her 2nd indoor high jump PB of the week! Ordinarily this height would have put her right to the top of the rankings, but with such a high standard competition Senna was just battling to get into the top 8. Shot put was next up, and after 2 poor throws, she unleashed a fantastic 9.15 in the final round, her 2nd best throw ever. Long jump is always a crucial event due to the potential points on offer - with Senna knowing that she would need to jump well in excess of 5m to keep in contention with the top. Her 5.08m in the first round was her best jump - it was an ok result, but rivals around her jumped further. This set-up the 800m, with Senna in a fantastic battle for positions 5 through to 9. Senna knew that in order finish as high up the order as possible, it would take her most comitted run ever.  And that is exactly what she delivered! She set the pace from the gun, delivering her race strategy to perfection. She finished in 2:27, matching her PB, and recording the 3rd fastest time of the 21 athletes. This secured her an incredible 5th place in England, with a massive overall PB of 3285pts.

A fantastic performance from Senna!

Northern U17/U20/Senior Indoor Championships

The first Track and Field Championships of 2026 took place at Sheffield on the 10th/11th January, with a strong Blyth squad setting the bar high, with 3 medals heading back to the North East.

Day 1 saw the sprint hurdles take place, with Safia, Charlotte and Fearne going in the U17 heats, with Safia setting a small PB. Katy progressed through the rounds all the way to the final - where she produced a fantastic run to record a club record time of 9.01s, but agonisingly missed out on the podium. We had 3 ladies in the U20 hurdles, and Senna, Faith and Abi all proceeded to the final, where Faith produced an incredible run to take bronze with a club record 9.23s, with Senna and Abi 5th and 6th.

In the 300m, Charlotte and Fearne took on the tight bends of the banked track, with Fearne setting an indoor PB. Charlotte worked hard with a tough lane draw, and smashed her outright 300m PB. In the 60m, Kimi produced a seasons best performance, whilst Hollie progressed serenely through the U20 rounds, recording a new PB and outright club record of 7.92s in the semi - before going on to finish 7th in the final.

In the long jump Safia, Kimi and Charlotte all produced solid performances, although they were not quite able to achieve to their best. Senna sandwiched a 400m heat in between her hurdles races - finishing in an isolated 2nd, but missing out on a place in the final.

Day 2 was a quieter day, with Kimi setting an indoor 200m PB. Hollie went again in the U20 200m, and set a huge indoor PB to finish 2nd in her heat, although she just missed out on a final place as the organisers elected to only use 5 lanes for the final. Alfie produced a fantastic performance in the senior men's long jump, recording a best  of 6.83m to take a wonderful bronze. There was more medal success in the sand to finish the championships - with Sadie Parker opening her season with a performance that was consistent, and improved with every round - as she took U20 silver with 5.61m in the final round.

A fantastic champs, with 3 medals, 4 club records, and 7 personal bests!

Christmas Parlauf
We had a great turnout of Blyth juniors at the club's senior xmas parlauf. Maisie Payne scored a podium finish with Beth and Eliza finishing in the top 6!

Sheffield RJT Indoor Open.

5 Team Blyth athletes travelled to Sheffield to sharpen up after the christmas break - and they produced some fine performances.

Mia Liddell last raced in Sprint Hurdles as an U15, way back in 2018! Eight years later, and she was back on the start lane as a senior, and blazed out of the blocks to lead after 2 hurdles. However, she clattered hurdle 3 and nearly fell, but recovered to finish 3rd. Mia also raced in the 60m and 200m, setting good benchmarks.

Senna Gorvett also raced in the hurdles, setting a new seasons best time of 9.65s to take the win as she continues to build with every competition. Later on , she record 60.81s in the 400m, which was a great time from lane 2. Immediately after this, Senna gave it her all in the long jump on fatigued legs, and did well to get close to 5m.

Kimi was not quite at her sharpest, but gave it her best in the 60m, before adjusting her goals in the long jump and coming out with her most consistent series of jumps ever, which was a huge positive.

India took part in a full pentathlon, starting with her 2nd best ever performances in the hurdles and long jump, followed by a new shot put PB of 7.30m. The high jump was not her best, but she finished with a strong 800m to secure an overall indoor petnathlon PB.

Coach Nigel was also in action, making his first appearance of the indoor season of 200m and 400m, he ran well in both!
