It was a sensational day of athletics as we hosted match 2 of the NEYDL. The combined Blyth/Alnwick team were in stunning form, racking up win after win, and scoring a massive points total to extend our league at the top of the league. On Saturday 17th May, a number of our talented U20's athletes produced a sublime series of performances to help the Blyth/Wallsend team to a 3rd place finish, keeping us well in the battle for the Division 1 title.
Sadie Parker set a brand new PB and U20 club record of 58.75s to take the 400m win. Senna Gorvett smashed the club record in the 100m hurdles with 15.73s to take first place, also recording a 1.55m high jump. Amber Wright cleared a soild 1.50m in the high jump, and was 2nd in the long jump with 5.04m. Millie Train set a new LJ PB to take the win with 5.22m, also winning the triple jump with an outdoor PB of 10.99m. Hollie-Anne Sudder made her NESDL debut and stormed to a thrilling PB of 25.53s in the 200m. Xara Purvis was 2nd in Javelin and recorded a big 800m personal best of 2:47.21s, whilst sister Lilia set a new Discus PB of 28.84m, also scoring well in the shot put. Georgia Turner set a seasons best of 36.29m to win the hammer, performing well also in shot put and discus. Kaitlyn Waddell made her Great Britain debut on Sunday 18th May at the Loughborough International, becoming the first Blyth athlete to represent GB in track and field.
It was a challenging comp for Kaitlyn, starting with 4 no throws - however she finished strong with a 49.05m final throw. A fantastic experience for Kaitlyn, a huge well done to her and her coach David. NECAA Track & Field Championships – Report Glorious sunshine meant that conditions were near perfect for this years edition of the NECAA Track & Field Championships, which this year took place at Shildon.
