Last weekend saw 5 Team Blyth athletes competing at the highest level at the England Athletics Champs, which also incorporated the Euro U20 trials.
Alfie Ward took a fantastic U23 Long jump silver with a best of 6.86m, an outdoor PB Katilyn Waddell was 7th in the U20 Hammer on Friday night, with a best of 47.21m Luke Pichler took a fine 5th in a high quality u20 decathlon, setting a new decathlon PB of 6590pts Sadie Parker was involved in an extremely close long jump competiton, with her best of 5.78m being just 13cm shy of the England u20 podium. Senna Gorvett finished 4th in her 400m Hurdles heat on Saturday, before racing over 100m hurldes where she again finished 4th in her heat. It is fantastic to have so many Blyth athletes competing at this level, they should all be very proud of themselves.

The curtain came down on the NEYDL season at Whitley Bay on Sunday 20th July, with the Blyth/Alnwick team finishing their season in style as we were crowned division 2 champions!
Our debutantes were magnificant, showing great courage and team spirit and producing some fine performances. Our more experienced athletes led by example - scoring countless wins. Our relay teams dominated the track, with Blyth/Alnwick recording win after win to end the day. We once again scored over 700 points, well over 200 more than the nearest team. Four wins from four for the season means we are promoted as champions, with the highest ever division 2 points total in NEYDL history! On Monday at training, it was fantastic for talented athletes from Blyth, North Shields Poly and Wallsend Harriers to get together for a photo shoot to celebrate being awarded funding by NOTAN towards this weekends ESAA Champs (Preview below). The cost of competing at these champs is very high - and the NOTAN trustees made the decision to financially support athletes who had qualified for ESAA Champs, if they represented one of the member clubs of which Blyth is one. You can read move about it HERE NEGP On a hot Wednesday evening at Monkton, our athletes were on fire at the latest NEGP. Highlights included club records for new member Alastair Johnson (U15 3000m), George Bryce (U17 3000m), and Lauren Jobson (Senior 200m). There were numerous other event wins and PB's from our brilliant team. Check out the results below. English Schools Championships Preview This is the most prestigious schools athletics event worldwide, and this year we have by far the greatest number of athletes ever due to take to the track and field in Birmingham. Athletes have traveled down on Thursday, and will represent their counties with pride against the best in England. Incredible memories will be made, that is for certain. 5 Team Blyth athletes represented Northumberland over the weekend, and they showed their multi-eventing class with genuinely superb performances. Luke Pichler - Senior Boys Decathlon🥇 Highlights included 100m PB (11.32s) and outdoor shot put PB Senna Gorvett - Senior Girls Heptathlon 🥉 Massive PBs and club records in 100m Hurdles (15.09), High Jump (1.62m) and Javelin (26.94m) for an overall PB score 4398pts Abi Huntly - Inter Girls Heptathlon A huge high jump PB of 1.47m, and a 200m PB of 27.40 left Abi highly placed after day 1. Abi started day 2 but ended her comp after the Jav. Fearne Bell - Junior Girls Pentathlon - 7th. An incredible series of events, with PBs in all 5 of the individual events, with a highlight being a 1.35m HJ pb. A massive overall pentathlon PB of 2340pts India Gorvett - Junior Girls Pentathlon - 11th. Big PBs in the hurdles (12.59s) and 800m (2:50.30) for a superb overall PB of 2201pts. Fearne and India formed part of a strong Northumberland team that took 2nd in the junior girls team competing alongside Ayla (Elswick) and Alicia (Alnwick). Abi teamed up with Evie, Macy and Francesca (NSP) to form the inter girls team that finished 3rd. Senna and Luke proceed automatically to national finals in September. Well done to everyone that was part of such a fantastic weekend, and thanks to the officials and volunteers that made it happen. Northumberland Minors Champs @ Gateshead Elliot Summers -Y7 800m 5:12.0s 5th Place Bella Rose - Y8 Hammer 34.56m 1st Place Championship Record Alexander Robson-Lamb - Y7 Hurdles 1st Place 12.1s Championship Record, Y7 High Jump 1st Place 1.50m Chloe Jones - Y7 800m 2:41.9s 5th Place Northern U20/Senior Champs @ Derby Day 1 Double gold for Sadie Parker. She began with 5.70m to take the u20 long jump title, before producing a sensational return to hurdles to take u20 100m hurdles gold in 15.12s in her first race over the distance. Day 2 Kaitlyn Waddell takes U20 Hammer gold with a best of 48.65m. Georgia Turner is 5th with 35.22m. Alfie Ward takes Senior long jump gold with 6.74m in the final round. Its bronze for Millie Train in the u20 Triple Jump, after being unseated from gold medal position in the final rounds. A fantastic series of performances from our athletes! Funetics @ Monkton Harris Jobson had a fantastic competition, taking wins in the 50m (8.30s), Standing Long jump (1.86m), 400m (74.70s) and scoring a PB in the howler (14.02m) |
