What a fantastic weekend! Things kicked off on Saturday with the return of the NOTAN Summer Grand Prix after a 6 year absence. Nearly 100 young athletes too part in a sprint, jump, throw and endurance run as they gave it their all and had a huge amount of fun. Volunteers from Blyth worked alongside North Shields Poly and Wallsend Harriers to make this an incredible event. We had 4 of our own juniors taking part, with Harris equalling the 400m league record, and Amelie, Noah and Eliza all performing superbly. Results are at www.notanathletics.co.uk Also on Satuday, Senna Gorvett raced in 400m Hurdles at the BLCF Hurdles Fest in Chelmsford, as she took the opportunity for higher level competition in the South of England. The long trip was more than worthwhile, as she came away with a 3rd place finish out of 12 athletes, a seasons best, and an English Schools Qualifying time of 65.30s On Monday, 4 of our athletes travelled to York to represent the North East at the Northern Intercounties. Katy (hurdles, Abi (hurdles), Sarah (100m, Hurdles) and Fearne (Discus) all performend superbly, helping the team to a 2nd place finish. Finally, down in Chelmsford it was the Bedford International Games, with Millie Train and Sadie Parker travelling to take advantage of an extremely high level of competition. They delivered superb performances, with Millie jumping further in every round as she set an outdoor personal best of 11.13m in the final round. Sadie made a huge breakthrough, as she leapt to a new outright PB of 5.81m in the first round, despite not hitting the board. In round 5 she went even further, jumping 5.89m although this was wind assisted. She finished as 1st U20 - a huge performance.
