COMPETITION
Blyth Running Club provide unprecedented access to competition. Training forms an important part of what the club offers, but the focus is on transferring the hard work into competitions. Here is what is available:
Cross Country
Blyth participate in the North East Harrier League, the UK's biggest league of its type. This XC races take place all over the North East, and include junior age groups with a minimum age of 9. The club pays the entry fees for the league, so there is no direct cost to athletes. We encourage participation in XC Championships, including North East, Northern and National champs. The club will pay the entry fees for any athletes that wish to participate. We also send teams to junior XC individual/relay events, again with entry fees paid for by the club.
Track & Field
There are numerous opportunities to compete in track and field competitions throughout the year, and Blyth have become a leading club in the North East in recent years. Our main league competition is the North East Youth Development League (NEYDL), which is a series of 4 meetings from April-July for athletes in school years 6 to 11. We are in a composite team with Alnwick, and participate in Division 2 in 2024. This is a league that encourages athlete development, team spirit, and provides a fantastic foundation for any young athlete. Older juniors have the chance to compete for our senior league team, who perform in one of the top divisions in the Northern Senior League. There is no cost for participation in these league events. Aside from league competitions, there are a huge variety of events and competitions at all levels and for all abilities. These range from local open and sportshall meets, through to regional and national championships. We often target specific events as a team, which always helps create a wonderful supportive atmosphere at events. We are heavily involved in the indoor T&F season throughout the winter, so please don't think that this is just a summer sport! Just ask if you want to know more.
Road
We have athletes regularly participating in Parkruns and junior parkruns as well as other junior road races including the junior/mini great north run. There are events for all ages and abilities, please get in touch with us to find out more. The club will pay the entry fee for any team relay event.
