Senior League & NEGP Reports
A busy week of track and field action included plenty of involvement from our young athletes at the inaugural NESDL match, as well as at the NEGP on Wednesday evening. On Saturday, Amber, Hannah and Millie took part in the first ever North East Senior Development League match at Shildon. In superb conditions, they all came out as event winners on the day. Hannah took the win in the high jump with a best of 1.55m to open her outdoor season, whilst Amber started with a strong 100m and followed this with a superb long jump performance, leaping out to 5.08m to take the win. Millie Train was also involved in the long jump where she won the “B” event with a new PB of 4.94, before she scored a big PB in the Javelin. Victory in the triple jump with an outdoor PB completed a fine day. On Wednesday, we had large squad of juniors competing at the NEGP at Monkton Stadium. Ben Compton opened his outdoors season with a massive PB in the 75m, followed by a solid shot put. Fearne recorded an equal PB in the high jump, whilst George was just outside his PB over 1500m. India Gorvett set a new personal best over 75m, and produced a really strong shot put. Liliana set a fine pace on her 1500m debut, whilst Luke Pichler produced really strong performances in both the shot put and pole vault. Millie Train was in splendid form in the triple jump, with all 3 valid jumps exceeding her previous outdoor PB set on Sunday, whilst Caitlin smahed her PB in the 300m, whilst Isla’s performance was hampered by an extremely late start and tricky lane draw in the final race of the day, but she still put in a strong performance.
